Sweden Extends Unbeaten Streak in Men’s Handball World CupSweden Extends Unbeaten Streak in Men’s Handball World Cup Stockholm, January 2023 – Sweden’s men’s handball team continued their impressive run in the ongoing World Cup, extending their unbeaten streak to five games with a convincing victory over Croatia. In a tightly contested first half, Sweden kept pace with the reigning Olympic champions, going into the break trailing by just one goal (12-13). However, the second half was a different story, as Sweden’s defense tightened up and their attack became more fluent. Led by the tournament’s top scorer, Jim Gottfridsson, Sweden outscored Croatia 21-15, taking control of the game and ultimately securing a 33-28 victory. Gottfridsson finished with 11 goals, while Niclas Ekberg added six. Sweden’s victory extends their undefeated record in the World Cup and places them at the top of Group B, with four wins and one draw. They are one of only three teams remaining unbeaten in the tournament, along with France and Denmark. Head coach Glenn Solberg praised his team’s performance, saying: “We showed great character tonight. Croatia is a very strong side, but we never gave up. Our defense was phenomenal in the second half, and our attack was able to find the spaces and create chances.” Captain Kristoffer Nilsson added: “It’s a great feeling to be unbeaten after five games. We knew it would be a tough test against Croatia, but we were determined to win. We’re playing with confidence and belief, and we’re excited to see how far we can go in this tournament.” Sweden will face Iceland in their final Group B game on Sunday. A win or a draw will secure them a place in the main round, where they will aim to continue their quest for a first World Cup title since 1999.
