He has won four Champions League titles, five Spanish league titles, and four Copa del Rey trophies with the Catalans. “I’m very happy to extend my contract with Barcelona,” Hansen said in a statement. “I feel very good here, both on and off the court. I’m convinced that we can continue to achieve great things together.” Hansen is considered one of the greatest handball players of all time. He was named IHF World Player of the Year three times in a row from 2011 to 2013 and has won two Olympic gold medals and three European Championships with Denmark. Barcelona president Joan Laporta said Hansen’s extension was “great news” for the club. “Mikkel is one of the best handball players in the world and a key part of our team,” Laporta said. “His commitment to Barcelona shows that he believes in our project and wants to continue making history with us.” Hansen’s extension is a major boost for Barcelona, who are looking to maintain their dominance in European and domestic handball. The club has won the Champions League for the past two seasons and is the reigning Spanish league champion.
