According to police, the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. at the Blue Moon Bar and Grill on Beale Street. A surveillance camera captured footage of a masked individual entering the bar and throwing the incendiary device at the main bar area. The Molotov cocktail ignited a small fire, causing significant damage to the bar’s interior and injuring three patrons. Two people sustained minor burns, while a third suffered more severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Memphis Fire Department firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, but the bar sustained extensive smoke and water damage. The bar’s owner, John Wilson, said the damage is estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. “We’re devastated by this senseless act of violence,” Wilson said. “This bar has been a staple in the Memphis community for over 30 years, and now it’s been taken from us.” Police are actively searching for the suspect, who remains at large. Witnesses described the individual as a white male in his 20s, wearing a dark hoodie and black ski mask. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Memphis community and raised concerns about the safety of downtown attractions. Mayor Jim Strickland condemned the attack and vowed to bring the perpetrator to justice. “This is not the Memphis we know,” Strickland said. “We will not tolerate this kind of violence in our city.” The Blue Moon Bar and Grill is expected to remain closed until repairs can be completed. In the meantime, patrons are encouraged to visit other establishments in the area.
