The Affordable Housing Tax Break, which was set to expire on December 31, provides tax abatements to property owners who invest in affordable housing projects. The tax break has been credited with creating and preserving thousands of affordable housing units in St. Louis. “This tax break is a win-win for our city,” said homeowner Sarah Jones. “It helps provide affordable housing for working families, and it’s also helped boost our local economy by creating jobs.” Business owner John Smith agreed. “I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact that this tax break has had on our community,” he said. “It’s made a real difference in attracting businesses and creating jobs.” The rally was organized by the St. Louis Housing Authority (SLHA) and a coalition of community groups. SLHA Executive Director Charles Cannon said that the tax break is essential for St. Louis’s continued growth. “This is not just about affordable housing,” Cannon said. “It’s about our city’s future. We need to make sure that everyone in St. Louis has a place to call home, and this tax break helps us do that.” The Board of Aldermen is scheduled to vote on the extension of the Affordable Housing Tax Break at its next meeting. City leaders are urging residents to continue to show their support for the measure. “We need to send a strong message to our elected officials that this tax break is not just important, it’s essential,” said Cannon. “We urge everyone to contact their alderman and let them know that they support this tax break.”
