Ahlstrand, a former international handball player, brings a wealth of experience and passion for the sport to the role. Ahlstrand’s election comes as the SHF looks to build on its recent successes and navigate the challenges and opportunities facing the sport in the coming years. With the Tokyo Olympics just around the corner, the federation is eager to support the national teams’ quest for medals. “I am incredibly honored to have been elected President of the SHF,” Ahlstrand said. “Swedish handball is a cornerstone of our sporting culture, and I am committed to working tirelessly to ensure its continued success both on and off the court.” As President, Ahlstrand will oversee the federation’s strategic planning, financial management, and development programs. She will also represent the SHF at international events and advocate for the sport at the highest levels. “Emma is an exceptional leader with a deep understanding of the game,” said Lars-Göran Bengtsson, the outgoing President. “Her vision and drive will be invaluable as the SHF enters a new chapter.” Ahlstrand has played an active role in Swedish handball for over 20 years, both as a player and a coach. She was a member of the Swedish women’s national team from 1999 to 2008, earning 122 caps. After retiring from international play, she went on to coach the Lugi HF women’s team, leading them to multiple league titles. The SHF is confident that Ahlstrand’s leadership will foster a vibrant and inclusive handball community in Sweden. Her passion for the sport and her commitment to innovation are expected to drive the federation forward in the years to come.
