Officials from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) responded to calls about a suspicious package found near 36th Street and North Davidson Street at approximately 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers determined that the package was potentially hazardous and immediately ordered an evacuation of the surrounding area. Residents within a three-block radius were instructed to leave their homes and businesses. The Charlotte Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team and the FBI were called to the scene to assess the situation. The package was rendered safe and determined to be non-explosive. The evacuation was lifted several hours later, and residents were allowed to return to their homes and businesses. CMPD Lieutenant Brad Kakish stated, “The safety of the community is our top priority. We take all suspicious incidents seriously and investigate them thoroughly.” Investigators are still working to determine the origin and contents of the package. No injuries or damage were reported.
