Amarillo City Council Approves Plan for New Dog ParkAmarillo City Council Approves Plan for New Dog Park The Amarillo City Council has unanimously approved a plan for the construction of a new dog park in the city’s northeast quadrant. The park, which will be located at the intersection of Paramount Boulevard and Helium Road, is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The new dog park will feature separate areas for large and small dogs, as well as benches, water fountains, and agility equipment. It will also be fully fenced and lighted for safety. “This is a great addition to our city,” said Mayor Ginger Nelson. “It’s something that our residents have been asking for, and I’m proud that we’re able to make it a reality.” The new dog park is part of the city’s ongoing effort to improve its parks and recreation facilities. In recent years, the city has invested in new playgrounds, splash pads, and walking trails. “We want to make sure that our residents have access to quality parks and recreation opportunities,” said Parks and Recreation Director Michael Kashuba. “This new dog park is just one more way that we’re doing that.” The city council also approved a contract for the design and construction of the new dog park. The contract was awarded to the Amarillo-based company, J&S Construction. “We’re excited to get started on this project,” said J&S Construction owner, John Smith. “We know that this is something that the community really wants, and we’re going to make sure that we build a park that they can be proud of.” Construction on the new dog park is expected to begin in the spring. The park is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
