Oakland’s Lake Merritt Trail Closed for Emergency RepairsOakland’s Lake Merritt Trail Closed for Emergency Repairs Oakland, CA – The Oakland Park District has announced the temporary closure of the popular Lake Merritt Trail for emergency repairs. On Wednesday evening, a section of the trail near the Children’s Fairyland amusement park collapsed due to heavy rains that have saturated the ground. The closure affects approximately 1,000 feet of the trail, between Fernwood Drive and Swans Way. Park officials say the trail will remain closed until the repairs can be completed. They anticipate the trail will reopen by early next week, weather permitting. “Safety is our top priority,” said Nikki Bump, Superintendent of Recreation for the Oakland Park District. “We want to ensure that the trail is stable and safe for our visitors.” The trail closure is expected to cause some inconvenience for trail users, but the Park District is urging people to understand that the repairs are necessary. “We apologize for any disruption this may cause, but we want to ensure that the trail is safe for everyone to use,” said Bump. In the meantime, trail users can explore other trails in the area, including the Fairyland Loop Trail, the Lakeside Park Loop Trail, and the Rotary Nature Center Trail. The Park District is monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as they become available.
